Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds Lie in the Balance

Imagine if you could be Spider-Man and swing your way into a battle. And when the webs got boring, you could slice and dice some people like Dante from Devil May Cry. Well that is a reality with Marvel vs. Capcom 3, allowing players to take people from both the Marvel Universe and fight with or against people from the Capcom world.

With the countdown to Resident Evil ticking away, we thought it would be fun to talk a little bit about something else Capcom has released that made us smile. MVC3 was one of Capcom’s biggest blockbusters in the past few years.  Taking characters and stages from your favorite superheroes and adding them in with characters from your favorite video games, MVC3 allows users to experience what it would be like if these two massive worlds collided. And as you may have guessed, there is lots of fallout!

Marvel vs. Capcom was originally released in 1998 after the original successful release of the X-Men vs. Street Fighter. It was met extremely positive reviews by the people who played the original games as well as those who wanted to have a wider variety of characters. The game paved the way for crossover games which became very popular throughout the late 90’s and are still to date.

MVC3 places 3D characters in 2D stages. The music and gameplay comes previous Street Fighter and Marvel crossover games. The original release of the game came with 40 characters and 2 were downloadable from the store. The game was re-released with 12 new characters and gamers that have already downloaded the extra characters are allowed to import them to the new game free of charge.

The story focuses on Galactus coming to destroy the Earth and the two worlds join together in ours in order to protect us from being engulfed. While the most fun can be had playing online, there is also a single and multiplayer option accessible without connecting to the internet.

MVC3 introduces a tag attack that allows gamers to launch their foes into the air and continue combos before smashing their opponents to the ground. It also introduced X-Factor which gives players the ability to boost their strength and speed, along with regenerating health for a limited period of time which becomes longer if the player has lost characters or a lot of health.

Graphics – 8/10
Gameplay – 8/10
Fun Factor – 10/10
Replay Value – 9.5/10
Overall – 9/10

If for some reason you still haven’t gotten this games, it’s a must have for any fan of Marvel or Capcom. Even if you don’t normally enjoy fighting games, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has a way of charming itself into anyone’s heart.

Don’t forget in a few days, Resident Evil will be released, be sure to check back next week for a full review of the hands on and unboxing.  Until next time, enjoy playing!
