Resident Evil: Looking back

Since 1996, Resident Evil has been scaring the heck out of people in the discomfort of their own homes.
Resident Evil was originally set in a mansion, located in Raccoon City. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker, all members of the STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) entered Raccoon City after receiving phone calls about their being multiple disturbances with people acting like cannibals.

They went to the town and were chased by some creatures into the mansion. What came next was unthinkable for both the characters and the people playing. Resident Evil introduced zombies, along with a large set of additional monsters that chased our heroes all over the mansion laying waste to their teammates and back up.

Through the years, we have been introduced to many more fan favorites like Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, Rebecca Chambers and many more. These characters have fought through zombies, undead dogs, mutated frogs and many more creatures that would be enough to make even the coolest cats jump at the sight. As the years have passed, we have seen a set of new viruses that essentially are evolved versions of the original virus, allowing the victims to do much more than your average zombie, such as communicate with each other, and operate weapons and even drive.

The story was fairly simple. Umbrella Corporation had been doing testing with drugs that created the zombies and other creatures. At first it was thought to be a horrible accident but we soon learn that Wesker was actually a double agent and working for Umbrella the whole time. His plans were much more sinister and wanted to use the viruses to create a world that would be subservient to him.

For those of you those of you that are fans of everyone’s favorite antagonist, if you played part 5, you know the likelihood of Wesker returning is slim but if you’re like me, you’re hoping for a way for it to happen.
Resident Evil has been Capcom’s most profitable franchise surpassing Street Fighter which has about ten years on the gaming super power. With Resident Evil 6 just around the corner, only time will tell how Chris, Leon and newcomer Jake, are going to work their way through the craziness of the walking dead.
If you are having trouble waiting for the newest edition to the RE franchise, feel free to download some of the older games from the store or the brand new demo that showcases some of the new features of the survival horror.

October 2nd is release day so you have until then to practice your skills and find a way to protect yourself from the flesh eaters and gun wielders!
